Q & A

Q. Does Abstraktor’s solution mean that we can get rid of all our simulators and testing "hacks"?

A. ActorJs definitely gives you the opportunity to do just that. What you define as your system in our environment is up to you and is completely flexible. You are free to shift different parts (such as simulators) in and out of the system if you wish. You can also maintain different configurations in parallel.

Q. How about bottlenecks? How available is your solution?

A. As available as you make it! If you remove the external dependencies that have limited availability and replace them with ActorJs – and your system allows it – you can run as many ActorJs installations as you like. No more waiting for access to simulators to execute tests!

Q. In what stage of our product life cycle will your solution benefit us?

A. In truth, ActorJs can be beneficial in any stage involving changes to your product or the environment in which it works, such as:

  • Brand-new development – test-driven development (TDD) with fast feedback

  • Updating your system – swiftly create new tests and maintain the ones you have already created using ActorJs

  • Mature system with legacy tests – adapt tests to our solution for efficient maintenance and automation

Q. We are mainly integrating third-party products. How could we benefit from using ActorJs?

A. ActorJs can substitute any to all nodes in a system for testing purposes. For example, you can let ActorJs represent the nodes that are not yet available so you can get started with integration. Then you can switch in the real nodes as they become available. Another use would be to let ActorJs define the behavior of third-party providers of nodes as part of the requirement-setting process. The beauty of ActorJs is that the possibilities are limitless!

Q. Will ActorJs help us shorten our time to market?

A. Using our solution in conjunction with software development is where it really shines. Creating your tests bit by bit as your product takes shape will give immediate feedback, so you can pinpoint and fix those pesky bugs that are so time-consuming to find at later stages of development.

Q. Will we be able to improve our delivery precision?

A. If you believe knowledge helps you, the chances are good! Getting quick feedback from system-wide functional testing with ActorJs will let you direct your development resources to where they are needed most.

Q. Will we save money?

A. First of all, our core tool ActorJs (including source code) is free of charge. By using ActorJs, you will also be able to drastically reduce or even eliminate the cost for simulators and other external equipment used during testing. Since time translates into money, the availability, development, reuse, and maintenance gains offered by ActorJs contribute to lower costs.

Q. How do we get started using ActorJs?

A. We will help you get up and running using ActorJs on-site by providing a test architect resource. This resource will educate staff, help analyze your needs, and take care of any required adaptations to ActorJs.

Q. How do I know if ActorJs is suitable for my company?

A. If you are a provider of systems or products using protocols for communication, your company will benefit from our solution. The more complex interaction, within your system and with external dependencies, the more likely you will profit from ActorJs. Other factors come into play, however: even with less complex systems, any organization seeking to keep the test environment in shape, obtain feedback from test in time to act, or maintain the test base will benefit from using ActorJs.
